10th Planet Takes 2nd Place Team Title at IBJJF San Jose Open

10th Planet Oakland delivered a strong team performance at the IBJJF San Jose Open, with Oakland athletes making a major contribution toward a 2nd Place Overall team finish.

The result was a collective effort alongside fellow 10th Planet competitors, with 10th Planet Oakland founder and head coach Michael Hillebrand and 10th Planet San Jose head instructor Alan Sanchez accepting the team trophy together.

Sanchez is an accomplished competitor and coach in his own right, having won an IBJJF World Championship at brown belt as well as becoming an EBI Combat Jiu Jitsu champion. His experience and leadership have made him an important part of the 10th Planet competition community in Northern California.

For 10th Planet Oakland, the result represented more than another trophy. Team standings are built through performances across multiple athletes, making them a reflection of the depth of a competition program rather than the success of a single standout competitor.

That depth is an important part of the coaching philosophy at 10th Planet Oakland. The academy emphasizes constantly evolving technique, testing ideas against high-level competition and developing athletes who can succeed across different opponents and rulesets.

A team podium at an IBJJF event provides another measure of that approach. Athletes throughout the team contributed toward the overall result, turning individual performances into a collective accomplishment.

The 2nd Place Overall finish at the IBJJF San Jose Open also reflected the strength of collaboration within the Northern California 10th Planet community, with Oakland athletes joining fellow 10th Planet competitors and coaches to represent the team together.

Congratulations to everyone who competed, contributed points and helped bring home the team trophy.
