10th Planet Oakland Performs Jiu Jitsu Demonstration at Oakland Ballers Bruce Lee Night

10th Planet Oakland was invited by the Oakland Ballers to take the field at Raimondi Park for a special Brazilian Jiu Jitsu demonstration during Bruce Lee Night on August 5, 2025.

The team set up mats directly on the baseball field and performed for Ballers fans, demonstrating the effectiveness of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu through live examples of grappling, positional control and submissions.

Representing the academy on the field were Coach Stephen Choi, several of 10th Planet Oakland’s youth athletes, Jonny Mezheritskiy, and other members of the team. Together, they had the opportunity to showcase their Jiu Jitsu outside the academy and introduce the art to a much broader Oakland audience.

The event celebrated Bruce Lee’s legacy in Oakland and welcomed his daughter, Shannon Lee, and his wife, Linda Lee Cadwell, as special guests. After watching the demonstration, Shannon and Linda spent time with the 10th Planet Oakland team, talking with our young athletes and making the experience especially memorable for the kids.

For our youth athletes, it was a unique opportunity to perform their Jiu Jitsu in front of a stadium crowd and then meet Bruce Lee’s family while participating in an event celebrating his legacy.

The connection was particularly meaningful for 10th Planet Oakland because of Bruce Lee’s place in Oakland martial arts history. His willingness to study different systems, challenge convention and focus on what is effective continues to influence martial artists generations later.

The event also received local news coverage, making it a memorable night for the academy and a special opportunity to represent Jiu Jitsu and Oakland’s martial arts community in front of the city.
